January 7, 2008             Norwich Sunrise Rotary Club – Board of Directors Meeting

Attendance: Jonathan Woyasz, Kathy Chartier, Mike Jewell, George Mattern, Mary Reed, Lee McLallen , Adam Arpin, Greg Arnold, Brian O’Neil, Marianne Nardone, Nancy Riella, Peter Maneri

Nancy Riella was in attendance to determine how the club was doing attraction new members.  Our club had a net of two additional members for the year.  And to determine how our club was doing with our contributions to the Rotary Foundation.  It was determined that there has been an increase in our contribution to the foundation.  She also proved us with applications for the Presidential and District Governor Citations which need to be sent in by March 31, 2008.

The Student Exchange Program was discussed.  Jonathan made a motion that a $200.00 donation be made to the program.  Mary Reed 2nd the motion.  Motion carried.  Jonathan will contact Peter Maneri about issuing a check.

Adam is going to order the Four Way Test Book from Rotary to donate local schools.  He would like the club to donate a book and for a member of the club to read the book at each one of the schools.  Marianne Nardone is going to compile a list of schools.

Fund Raising -  Mary Reed is working on the Wine Tasting event.  She reported that it will most likely be held at the Converse Art Gallery at Norwich Free Academy.

The golf committee is meeting on Tuesday evening.  Greg Arnold will once again chair that committee.

Greg, Adam and Mike Jewell are working on the Big Dog Motorcycle Raffle.  We will sell 400 tickets at $100.00 per ticket.  Paperwork for a permit needs to be filed with Norwich Police Department and with the State of Connecticut.  The hope is to announce the winner at this year’s golf tournament.

The club web site was discussed.  The board was in agreement that it was working out well so far.  It was suggested that we add a contact e-mail address so people can contact us directly from the web site.  Greg reported that the cost for the web site is $50.00 per month but that an 8% discount is available if we pay for twelve months in advance.

The new format for speakers was discussed.  The board agreed that that was also working out well.  Adam will remind everyone to check the web site calendar to see when their turn is.

A change in the Monday morning meeting breakfast menu was discussed.  It was decided that we would leave it the way it is for another year.  However, we are going to recommend that they add some fresh fruit to the menu.

There are no immediate service projects pending.  Another river clean up will be planned for the springtime or early summer.

Kathy Chartier and Mary Reed will be attending the Pre-PETS conference.
